Leadership Across Cultures, Around the World

Romania. Ghana. China. Sierra Leone. India. Nigeria. Tanzania. The Philippines. Indonesia. Bhutan. Malaysia. Chile. Cameroon. Sudan. Uganda. Canada. Norway.  Wonderful leaders from all those countries are the stars of this photo.  I spent a recent week helping them hone their leadership, coaching and mentoring skills. They are journalists who won fellowships from The Media Project, a non-profit organization, to come to the Poynter Institute for this week of training.  It is humbling to be in their presence, especially those who practice journalism in the face of personal risk.  Not every country believes in a free and independent press. Each person in the group has committed to not only raise his or her own leadership and/or management skills, but to identify worthy journalists in their countries and mentor them.  I have never experienced a group so committed to learning, to taking notes and photos and videos of each session -- to capture the ideas and the memories. The Media Project plans to send each of them a copy of "WORK HAPPY: WHAT GREAT BOSSES KNOW" when it is published in June.  I am so deeply honored to be a part of their learning, their lives and their leadership.
